Career paths/From Freelance Creative Work
How to Become a UX Designer From a Freelance Creative Work Background
Moving from freelance creative work (illustration, graphic design, branding, copywriting, photography, etc.) into UX design is one of the more natural pivots in the design world, but it's not automatic. You already understand client work, visual craft, and iterating on feedback — what you're missing is the research rigor, systems thinking, and evidence-based reasoning that separates "makes things look good" from "makes things usable and provable." Freelancers who skip the research/testing muscle often get stuck at "UI designer with a UX title," so the real work is building that missing half deliberately.
